Hydroxycut is Back!

September 8th, 2009

LGO_hydroxycutThe market-leading weight loss supplement Hydroxycut has been reformulated and re-launched in the United States, just months after being recalled for potentially causing liver damage.

“The only ingredient left in from the original formulation is caffeine. We do not have any evidence that caffeine causes liver toxicity,” an FDA spokesperson told NutraIngredients-USA.com.

Iovate confirmed that “all of the product’s herbal ingredients and extracts have been replaced”, and that the reformulated product was on the market. However, the firm declined to answer any further questions. -Nutraingredients

MY COMMENT: How can this be? An entirely new product developed, tested, manufactured, and distributed in just 4 months?

What is the Top Rated Weight Loss Formula?

June 9th, 2009
Senior Holding Pills

According to dietspotlight.com, a website devoted to reviewing weight loss and diet programs, Avesil is “the most promising weight control formula we know of on the market.”

Another website, fatburner.net, offers a review that is not so favorable (“When researching the new diet pill Avesil I was disappointed to say the least at how vague their website is. It’s lacking crucial information that’s a must when purchasing a weight loss supplement. I finally found the ingredients: Clinical Strength Super Citrimax, Green tea extract, ChromeMate, and Caffeine. These are some good weight loss ingredients but, they do not tell you how much of these ingredients Avesil actually contains”)

Guess what? If you want to buy Avesil, be prepared to spend some big money. They use the same “free trial period” as acai berry, locking you in to a potential nightmare ($89.95 per bottle) .

Fatburner rates Apudexin as the top rated weight loss enhancer ($49.95).

I could be wrong, but it appears to me these companies are paying off these diet websites for advertising their products. Stay away!

Does Alli Work?

March 12th, 2009

Alli is the reduced-strength version of orlistat (Xenical), a prescription drug to treat obesity. It’s approved for over-the-counter sale to overweight adults 18 years and older. Alli is meant to be used in conjunction with a low-calorie, low-fat diet and regular exercise.

Alli can help you lose weight, but the weight loss likely won’t be great — perhaps just a few pounds more than you would lose with diet and exercise alone.

MY COMMENT: Potential side effects include
Gas with an oily anal discharge
Loose stools or diarrhea
More frequent bowel movements
Hard-to-control bowel movements

Doesn’t sound worth it for the chance that you might lose 2-3 extra pounds.

Many people on the weight-loss drug orlistat may not keep up the diet changes considered necessary for the treatment’s success, a small study suggests -Yahoo Health

MY COMMENT: No surprise here. There is a little more to weight loss than popping a pill. I wonder about their exercise habits.

Get High While Losing Weight With Fenphedra

January 27th, 2009

Check out the ad copy below-

Fenphedra will without a doubt provide users the QUICKEST weight loss results. It’s the only product we reviewed that surpassed the weight loss results of the now banned Fen-Phen in Weight Loss Speed and scored a 100% in this category. There have been reports that Fenphedra’s “Controversial” formula contains trace amounts of the prescription drugs Phentermine (a centrally acting stimulant chemically related to amphetamines which halts the hunger sensation in the brain commonly sold under the names Fastin and Adipex) and Prescribed Pain Relievers. Our thorough research into Fenphedra has not produced any evidence of these ingredients and we believe these rumors to be false.

Fenphedra does however give users a feeling of a “Happy” sensation which helps suppress ones appetite and overall feeling of well-being. This euphoric feeling is most likely caused by a herbal combination of intense stimulants that stimulate what is known in the scientific community as C-A-R-T and Humulus Lupus (one of only two plants in the family Cannabinaceaea… the other being Marijuana) which inhibits NPY. Concerns that Fenphedra may be soon taken off the market like Fen-Phen may make finding bottles in the U.S., Canada, and United Kingdom difficult. Fenphedra is definitely the diet pill of choice for those seeking extraordinary RAPID results. Its results Super Exceed its price tag. getdietsolutions

Then look at what criticalorie.com, has to say about the ingredients:

DiCaffeine Malate is a fancy caffeine. Fancy meaning that it has a Di in front of it and a Malate at the end (DiCaffeine Malate review here). There is no research supporting that it is any more effective than standard caffeine. Caffeine (caffeine review here) has been proven time and again to increase the metabolic rate so another version of caffeine being included in Fenphedra doesn’t surprise me at all. This ingredient passes the sniff test.

Chocamine is simply a fancy (trademarked) cocoa extra ingredient that also contains some amino acids and essential minerals. I reviewed Chocamine extensively and don’t like that the amounts of these various components aren’t disclosed. While the health benefits of cocoa are largely undisputed, Chocamine doesn’t give us the information we need to truly evaluate it. Neutral.

Phenylethylamine I’ve reviewed extensively. Research shows it is connected to feelings of well-being (there’s quite a bit of Phenylethylamine in chocolate). It is most likely included in Fenphedra to counteract the jitters that you would most likely feel from the DiCaffeine Malate and Synephrine.

Synephrine has research to back up that it is, indeed, an effective stimulant. After ephedra was banned by the FDA diet pill makers scrambled to find an equivalent. They thought they had found it with Synephrine and, while Synephrine is effective, there is no research that points to ephedra and Synephrine being equatable.

Humulus Lupus is well-known in “folklore” medicine as having a calming effect. I found more information on it at Purdue University’s website, and an extensive amount written about it on encyclopedia.com (including references to actual studies — how rare). It is used to treat insomnia so it’s no surprise that it’s included in Fenphedra. Like Phenylethylamine (PEA), it appears to be a counter-agent to the stimulative effects of the caffeine, chocamine, and Synephrine.
