Should You Cheat on the Weekend?

I’ve always been an advocate of a cheat day, or as one of my new clients calls it, “treat” day, with the recommendation that you also make it your long exercise day. 

Never assume.  After reading Weekend calories may wreck your diet, I’ll  make sure people understand the treat period can’t begin with Friday happy hour and end Sunday evening.  

Let’s call it “controlled” cheating so that you don’t undo the entire week.

Formerly Obese Mom Becomes a Runner

Two years ago, West Jordan resident Stacy Ulch looked in her closet and saw nothing but rows of gray and black clothing, all meant to disguise weight gained over the course of four pregnancies and 18 years.

A once-lithe 135 pounds, Ulch saw her weight steadily increase until it plateaued at 270 pounds in 2008.  -Salt Lake Tribune

High Fructose Corn Syrup Linked to Weight Gain in Rats

When rats are drinking high-fructose corn syrup at levels well below those in soda pop, they’re becoming obese — every single one, across the board. Even when rats are fed a high-fat diet, you don’t see this; they don’t all gain extra weight.”  -

This goes back to earlier speculation that HFCS consumption is somehow is linked to obesity.  Researchers then backpedaled on the idea, so I am curious where this will lead.   Regardless, watch your intake of HFCS!
