How to lose 10-20 pounds?

January 30th, 2009

from Yahoo Answers

I haven’t been working out a lot, and want to start aiming on my inner thighs and my abs. Are there any workouts that I can do to lose some pounds or just slim it down? I am not very strong but I am willing to try my hardest.

My reply, voted best answer-

Walking or jogging are your best options for slimmer thighs. Start with walking, and when you can do 3 miles in 45 minutes, it’s time to start jogging- 1 min jog, 1 min walk x 8-10. Graduate to 2 min jogs, and so on.

Spot reducing with weights will not do much other than strengthen muscle underneath the fat.

Thank you

The Anti-Shoe

January 29th, 2009

MTB Anti-shoeHave some extra money burning a hole in your pocket? Take a look at the MTB anti-shoe.

In the early 1990s, Swiss engineer Karl Müller realized that both shoes and backache are unknown to the Masai tribesmen – and that there is a causal connection between these two facts. By walking barefoot on the natural, soft, uneven ground of their East African homeland, the Masai activate also those muscles that atrophy when on walks on hard, even surfaces wearing conventional shoes.

This is NOT a running shoe!

Natural Substance Blocks Weight Gain

January 29th, 2009

Mice with increased levels of a natural brain chemical don’t gain weight when fed a high-fat diet, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have found

MY COMMENT: Don’t get excited just yet- if they do figure out a way to mimic this chemical, called orexin, clinical trials are years away.

Coke Sued over Vitamin Water Claims

January 27th, 2009

The Coca-Cola Company has been served notice of a class action lawsuit filed over what the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) says are deceptive and unsubstantiated claims on its VitaminWater line of beverages -cspi

“When I bought VitaminWater, frankly I thought I was doing myself a favor health-wise,” said the plaintiff, San Francisco, California, resident James Koh, who used to purchase and drink VitaminWater after working out at the gym. “I was attracted by the prospect of getting extra vitamins. But I had no idea that I was actually getting almost a Coke’s worth of sugar and calories. There’s no way I would have spent money on that, had I known.”

MY COMMENT: 33 grams of sugar in 1 bottle of this stuff? I’m curious how they get fat soluble vitamins to dissolve in there.
